Fence & Gate BUILDERS WELLINGTON

CUSTOM TIMBER FENCES AND GATES BUILT FOR YOUR HOME AND YOUR SPACE

A good fence or gate should do more than mark a boundary. It should provide privacy, security and shelter, suit your home and outdoor space, and stand up to Wellington conditions.

The Wood Whisperer builds custom timber fences and gates throughout Wellington, Porirua and the wider Wellington region, from simple boundary fencing and privacy screens to custom gates and feature fencing. Every project is built for the site, with practical advice on the design, materials and finish that will work best for your property.

BUILT FOR YOUR SPACE

Practical, good-looking solutions made to suit your property.

Whether you need more privacy from the neighbours, a secure boundary for kids or pets, shelter from the Wellington wind, a new gate for better access, or simply want to replace a tired old fence, Guppy can help work out a solution that suits the space.

From straightforward timber paling fences to slatted screens, custom gates and more detailed feature fencing, everything is built on site and tailored to your property rather than treated as a one-size-fits-all job.

MORE THAN A BOUNDARY

A fence can be practical without looking purely functional.

The best fences and gates feel like part of the property — working with the home, landscaping and outdoor spaces while providing the privacy, security or shelter you need.

Guppy takes the time to work around the realities of each site, whether that's existing trees and planting, retaining walls, sloping ground, different levels or existing structures. Rather than forcing a standard solution into the space, the design can be adapted around what's already there.

From simple boundary fencing to custom feature fences and matching gates, the aim is to build something that

does its job, suits the property and looks like it belongs there.

RECENT FENCE AND GATE PROJECTS

PREMIUM PINE FEATURE FENCING & GATES - AOTEA

The owners were looking for something a little more refined than traditional rough-sawn fencing, settling on a vertical 45x45 dressed premium pine design with bevelled tops.

The new fencing runs along the retaining wall, around the front yard and through to the street frontage, with matching custom gates integrated into the design.

One of the best parts of this project was working the fence around the existing trees and planting rather than removing them. Some now grow straight through the new fence, helping the finished structure feel like part of the landscape rather than simply sitting in front of it.

Combined with the newly landscaped tiered gardens, the result is clean, warm and beautifully cohesive.

CHILD & PET-SAFE FENCING - MIRAMAR

After moving into their new home, these clients needed to make the property safe for their young child — with a new dog also arriving soon.

The existing retaining wall provided the boundary, but needed new timber fencing and custom gates built above and around it to safely enclose the garden. The project also included a new entrance balustrade, helping make the accessway safer while keeping the timberwork consistent throughout the property.

The finished fencing follows the changing levels of the section and works with the existing retaining walls, creating a secure outdoor space without closing in the garden.

The clients were delighted with the result — and we'll be heading back for round two of their outdoor improvements.

COHESIVE OUTDOOR BUILD - TITAHI BAY

A repeat customer in Titahi Bay wanted the different elements of their outdoor space to feel connected, with a relaxed look that complemented the home's beach-house character.

Using dressed pine and a consistent horizontal timber detail, Guppy created a custom fence and gates, pergola, new entrance steps and integrated planter, carrying the same design language through the property.

The horizontal slat fencing provides privacy and separation without feeling too enclosed, while the new entrance creates a warm, welcoming transition into the home. Repeating the timber detailing across each element ties the whole outdoor space together rather than making each addition feel like a separate project.
